Lance
Lance (or spear) is a pole weapon, same as a pike. It is used by every cavalry lancer. It also has a stance as the pike by pressing X. You cant attack or block if you are in that stance, so press X again to go back to hostile. The lance only has one attack direction, which is down.
Design
Lance has a black wooden shaft, iron capping at end and a metal spear head. And a 2-colored flag on the shaft. Russian lancer's have a brown wooden shaft and the same capping and spear head,but without the small flag.
Usage of Lances
Lances were mainly used by cavalry lancers to kill enemy infantry from a further range on the horse. Lances weren't really made for close quarters combat due to its bad attack speed and range. but still can be used. Its not a 1-hit against cavalry horses but is usually so against foot soldiers adding to the purpose of the lancer role.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Has a further range on horses.
- Decent in close combat.
- Excellent for dealing with cavalry if on foot, if used properly.
- Can deal lots of damage against horses
- Is able to hit enemies mounted on cavs
Cons:
- Slow attack speed
- Cannot kill a horse instantly, unlike the pike.
Strategies
Defending Against Cavalry On Foot
Lances are not the best at melee, but they can be used partially for cavalry defense on the ground. Aiming up at the cavalry's rider and hitting them is a simple way of defense. Stand still (or back away) until the horse comes close enough (most likely 10-20 studs away), then abruptly move to the right. Because a cavalry's weaponry is on the right side (rider's perspective), he is vulnerable on the left side. Then aim up and towards the rider and hit it.
It will not cause heavy attack, but if used multiple times, it can easily kill any cavalry rider careless enough.
