La Rothière is a playable map in Blood & Iron.
Summary[]
La Rothière appears to be a small snowy village in north-central France. While this battle was fought by Coalition Powers (Austria, Bavaria, Prussia, Russia, and Württemberg), only the Russians are playable in this battle against the French.
Landscape[]
The only notable feature of the map is the village itself. Inside it is exactly 10 houses, along with a church. There are no trees, save for the few dead trees in the courtyard and about two outside the village.
Historical Information[]
La Rothière appears to be part of the Battle of La Rothière during the War of the Sixth Coalition.
Fought on February 1, 1814 during the Napoleonic Wars, between the French Army, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Russian and Prussian Armies, led by Emperor Alexander I of Russia and King Frederick William III of Prussia. The battle took place near La Rothière, a small village in northeastern France, and was part of the larger campaign known as the 1814 campaign in north-east France.
The French army was outnumbered and outgunned by the combined Russian and Prussian forces, and they suffered heavy losses. Despite this, Napoleon was able to rally his troops and managed to hold off the enemy advance for a time. However, the Russian and Prussian forces ultimately emerged victorious, dealing a major blow to the French army and pushing them further back into France.
The Battle of La Rothière was a significant turning point in the Napoleonic Wars, as it marked the beginning of the end for Napoleon's rule. After this defeat, the French Army was unable to recover and was eventually defeated by the Coalition, leading to Napoleon's exile to the island of Elba.
Tips & Tricks[]
- While there are very few trees to use for cover, the houses and fences can be used instead. Be careful though, as the fences leave a tiny part of your head open. While it is rare, don't count on a chance to live.
- The grass near the church is high enough to conceal a soldier. Use this to ambush enemies.
- The church is a decent place to base in, just beware of the likely melee slaughter that may occur.
- The church tower is a decent sniping spot, just watch out because it is painstakingly obvious that someone will use it to snipe and people will try to stop you.
- Just like in most maps, don't charge the church immediately, but wait for the heat of battle to be over, and then rush in. That way, most enemies won't know where you are, because they cleared the location.
